The Art of Design

I had a fabulous day yesterday, I had a visitor at the studio - Becky of Chameleon Designs. She is such a lovely person and extremely talented.

We spent some time talking about Design. This is an area I'm not ashamed to say I struggle with. However, after a great chat with Becky I feel much more comfortable with the whole topic, that's not to say I completely "get" it, I think its too big a subject for one conversation, but I at least know in my mind some of the principles.

So, I've ordered myself a new sketchbook!

This is about to be filled with all sorts of inspiration - doodles, pictures, colours, patterns etc.

I think I may have found a new passion - buying sketchbooks! I really enjoyed browsing the handmade marketplaces looking for this book, and I could've bought lots more!

I'm busy preparing for the Made by Mummy event on Thursday 8th October 2009, in Wilmslow. I've been so busy preparing for The Big Bead Show at Sandown, that I kind of got side tracked and hadn't been making jewellery! I had a good day at the studio today though and did get some earrings made and a few pendants part-made.

Hopefully I'll get time to take some photos of the finished jewellery before it goes to the show.

Lets try again!

Haven't I been rubbish lately! Since having shingles everything seems to have gone a bit wobbly! Although shingles is now gone, I've been left with a type of neuralgia that some people get after shingles. Typically not everyone gets it and its unusual in under 50's. Well that just about sums it up for me - if its unusual, I'll get it!! In fact now if a GP says its unlikely I go into panic mode!

Back to business....

The website is pretty much how I want it now and I've started to stock up the shop. I've started with the Components pages as I am going to be exhibiting at The Big Bead Show in Sandown on the 17th October 2009. It will be a real test of my products as its a massive show and should be really busy.

I'm quite nervous about it, but pressing ahead with lots of plans and new designs. Like this:

This sterling silver toggle clasp has a light hammered finish to it. I thoroughly enjoyed my return to metal work - and there will definitely be lots more sterling toggles on the way!

Another new addition to my range is handmade earwires. This is the first design to be added, but expect lots more! I'm doodling lots of more elaborate designs so watch this space!

So hopefully there's still one or two of you out there who remember to stop by and read my blog! I promise to get back into the swing of things.
